What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Practitioner A - FAMILY PLANNING (Health Services) position at Shelby County Government?
Position Summary This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grant. This position works under the direction of the Clinical Health Administrator and/or designee to perform in many specialty areas as a clinical practitioner and/or consultant promoting and demonstrating the expertise, practice, and innovative approaches in the management of patient and family care under jointly established protocols as related to public health nursing.
Pay Grade: 56
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
This position is eligible for a HIRING BONUS outlined below: 1st payment of $1500 paid after completion of six (6) months of service 2nd payment of $1500 paid after completion of twelve (12) months of service 3rd payment of $2000 paid after completion of eighteen (18) months of service.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Two (2) years of advanced professional clinical-related experience; AND
2. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing; OR
3. An equivalent combination of related training and experience.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Performs physical assessment and appropriate diagnostic procedures, prescribes treatment for minor uncomplicated medical problems, provides primary health care services, referral (as indicated), and follow up care.
2. Assumes professional leadership responsibilities in the health care system by participating in the clinical training of nurses in specialized training programs.
3. Serves as A preceptor to new practitioners and participates in staff education programs for other public health nurses and practitioners.
4. Keeps medical records and reports.
5. Develops and implements plans for teaching and counseling individuals, families, and groups in various settings for the prevention of disease and maintenance of health.
6. Participates in course of specialized training.
7. Participates in periodic revision of specific protocols.
8. Participates in peer review.
9. Participates in developing and implementing special programs within the department.
10. Performs other related duties as required or directed.
KSAs
1. Expert knowledge of the principles of nursing and ability to function independently in a clinical setting in his/her specialty.
2. Expert knowledge of social and economic forces affecting the health of people and of family and group relationships, and the aims and purposes of local health departments.
3. Ability to collaborate, coordinate, and lead others in the improvement of health care.
Special Requirements
1. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one as of employment date.
2. Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.
3. Must have prescriptive authority for the State of Tennessee.
4. Must have an active, unrestricted license as an advanced practice nurse (Nurse Practitioner) in the State of Tennessee or in the Tennessee compact (OR application for license transfer to Tennessee must be in process for consideration).
5. Must maintain all required certifications and licenses throughout duration of employment.
Physical Requirements
Basic and advanced physical assessment courses must be completed within six (6) months of hire.
