What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety & Security Monitor position at Shelby County Schools?
Purpose and Scope
The Safety & Security Monitor is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for MSCS staff, students, and visitors. This position will provide security screening of all MSCS staff, visitors, and students at their assigned school, and will also provide security screening at athletic events and after-hour school activities to ensure the safety of everyone present.
Essential Job Functions
Minimum Qualifications
High School degree or equivalent, and 2 years of experience in a relevant area for a total education/experience of 2 years.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of the functions of the school divisions and its operating procedures.
- Knowledge and skills of the operational functions of the New Weapons Detection System and X-ray machines and how to use this equipment.
- Knowledge and skills of how to troubleshoot and make minor repairs of the New Weapons Detection System and X-ray machines.
- Ability to successfully complete all training/certification regarding the New Weapons Detection System and X-ray Machines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of Safety and Security policy and procedures regarding screening and searches of student, staff, and visitors.
- Knowledge of MSCS District Policies
- Ability to tackle the operational challenges in a complex, changing political and educational
- Ability to logically complete reports in the order of the incident
Physical Requirements and Working Environment
Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment.
Unavoidable Hazards: The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.
Sensory (ADA) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
