What are the responsibilities and job description for the Court Deputy with APOST Certification (3 OPENINGS) position at Shelby County?
Work involves providing security for the courts, judges, courthouse employees, and general public; assisting the Sheriff's Training Center staff with the delivery of various training curricula; safely and securely transporting prisoners to and from the Shelby County Jail and local, State and Federal courts; and serving civil process for the courts as needed. THIS POSITION IS PART TIME AND WILL WORK NO MORE THAN 29 HOURS PER WEEK.
- Stationary posting at electronic metal detectors at doorways to ensure no one enters the Shelby County Courthouse with a firearm or potentially dangerous weapon.
- Inspect individuals for weapons (knives, pistol, scissors, screw drivers, mace, etc.) to ensure the safety of the judges, employees, and general public.
- Maintains records.
- Arrests violators and transports them to the jail.
- Directs visitors to the proper offices.
- Answers questions.
- Picks up mail and distributes to the judges.
- Assists with the delivery of training curricula at the Shelby County Sheriff's Training Center.
- Transports local prisoners from the Shelby County Jail to local, State and Federal courts.
- Receives court ordered civil process (subpoenas, complaints, etc...) from clerk for service to the public.
- Assists Chief Bailiff and courthouse Bailiffs as needed.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by supervision.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- APOST Certification.
- Minimum Standards of Training certification.
- Valid Driver's License.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Most of the work is performed indoors.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is generally light consisting of standing, sitting, and walking. Force may be necessary in order to maintain control of a situation.
EXAMINATIONS
No written or performance examination will be required for this position. Applicants are screened and certified based on an evaluation of their education, training, experience and other requirements as outlined in this Position Announcement and denoted on their Job Application and responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire.
