What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer and Donation Coordinator position at Shelter Care Ministries?
Shelter Care is integral in ending homelessness in Winnebago and Boone Counties. We provide housing to more than 200 people each year and offer supportive services, social opportunities, and meals to more than 300 Jubilee members each year.
Position Summary: Provide a connection for members of the community to Shelter Care through fulfilling volunteer experiences and coordination of the delivery and pick-up of donations, including furniture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Volunteer and Community Donations:
- Identify and train community volunteers to support the mission and work of Shelter Care
- Organize community outreach events, provide presentations to highlight Shelter Care’s work and volunteer opportunities to universities, corporations, and other partners in the community to increase community interest and awareness
- Solicit in-kind (non-monetary) support for programs as identified by program staff
- With the help of volunteers, keep donation room organized so staff can easily locate needed items
- Ensure housing units for homeless individuals and families have appropriate furnishings to meet their needs
- Coordinate volunteer placement and provide recognition of volunteers
- Maintain an accurate volunteer database
Knowledge and Skills Desired:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Driver’s License and driving record that is acceptable to Shelter Care’s insurer
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs on occasion, ability to lift and carry items up to 100 lbs with staff or volunteer assistance
- Excellent organizational skills
- Computer proficiency with experience in Microsoft Word and/or Excel
- Ability to work with and supervise volunteers
- Flexibility in scheduling with very occasional evening or weekend work
