Portfolio Manager – Alternative Investments
$100,000 per year minimum, commensurate with experience
Job Level: Manager
Job Location: Corporate Office – Columbia, Missouri
What You Will Be Doing:
Identify and pursue investment opportunities across multiple private market asset classes, including private credit, private equity and real estate. Conduct market research and due diligence for new investments in specific insurance structures, funds, co-investments and direct investments. Prepare written memos and presentations and make recommendations for approval by senior management and internal Investment Committee. Monitor and report on existing investments; monitor IPS compliance; model the liquidity position of Shelter entities; maintain process documentation to ensure procedures are current, accurate and implementable.
What We're Looking For:
- BA in analytical field (Accounting, Finance, etc.) required and 7 to 10 years of investment related experience typically required.
- MBA or CFA, or other relevant investment certification.
- Experience in external manager selection and conducting due diligence.
- Prior experience analyzing and researching private credit preferred.
- In-depth understanding of insurance-specific investment considerations, including return requirements and capital analysis.
- Advanced experience with Excel spreadsheet functions, database tools and Microsoft Office products.
- Demonstrated ability to apply finance and investment management theory.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with asset managers, as well as organization and ability to work independently.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to present clear and convincing recommendations to senior leadership.
- Proficiency with Bloomberg Investment System preferred.
- Familiarity with private-market back-office operations workflows required to ensure seamless execution and accurate reporting.
- Capability to travel to conduct due diligence and stay current with market and insurance industry trends.
- Ability to perform essential functions of the position, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
