What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vehicle Installation Technician - Emergency Vehicle Upfitting position at Shenandoah Fleet Maintenance and Management?
The Emergency Vehicle Upfitting technician works in and around public safety vehicles doing electronic upgrades and retro-fits - to include LED lighting, media/video systems, technology add-ons, and custom installations – of aftermarket equipment into all types of public safety vehicles.
• Install after-market equipment into public safety vehicles
• Follow wiring diagrams and assembly instructions for light bars, in-car video, computer systems, canine units and other electronic equipment.
• Perform basic programming of installed equipment, run comprehensive tests on all equipment; perform troubleshooting as required
• Collaborate with customers to ensure the proper placement and programming of the equipment on their vehicles as needed.
• Keep up to date on latest installation /service bulletins
• Maintain an orderly and clean working environment
• Strip cars of decals and specialized equipment for resale
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year work experience with after-market vehicle enhancement and installation
- Intermediate knowledge of automotive electrical systems & vehicle wiring
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving history
- Ability to operate power tools and hand tools (drill, wrench, screwdriver, wire strippers etc.)
- Must have own tools
- Experience with Law Enforcement or Fire/EMS required

Work Conditions:
- Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel and squat
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
- Must be able to stand for long periods
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to work with small fasteners or components
