What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN, Clinical Nurse Educator position at Shenandoah Medical Center?
1. Evaluate, develop and implement training to staff to improve practices for patient well-being and safety.
- Design new curricula and develop programs or courses to educate nursing staff.
- Performs comprehensive assessments in an efficient and effective manner.
- Evaluates employee progress toward desired outcomes prior to and after education.
- Evaluate and revise programs as required.
- Performs hands on training for students.
2. Performs and maintains documentation.
- Documents accurate and ongoing assessments.
- Maintains recordkeeping for licenses, certifications, required competencies.
- Prepares affiliation agreements with organizations for student participation.
3. Communicates effectively.
- Communicates and collaborates effectively with other health team members regarding needed training or education.
- Communicates outcomes of assessments and competencies to CNO. Appropriately reports violation of renewal or completion.
4. Promotes and ensures patient and staff safety in all aspects of responsibilities.
- Educates staff to assure administration of medications, treatments and procedures are in a timely and safe manner according to health care provider orders and nursing policy, including appropriate performance of standard precautions, using two patient identifiers, and performing patient risk assessments every shift.
- Educate staff to assure utilization of proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.
- Implements infectious disease controls as appropriate including isolation procedures, proper use of hand washing and gloves.
- Educates staff to assure proper procedures are followed for wasting narcotics and disposal of sharps and hazardous materials.
5. Collaborate with Wellness, Safety and Emergency Preparedness Committee to promote safety, health and wellness for all SMC staff.
- Respond to changes in health care and develop programs to support those changes.
- Teach content as appropriate to facilitate orientation, staff development and safe practices.
- Maintain flexibility when managing multiple roles and responsibilities.
- Serves as a role model for safety, wellness, education and professional nursing practice.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
