Shenandoah University’s Department of Pharmacy Practice is accepting applications for a Nontraditional Experiential Education Coordinator. This full-time benefited position will work out of our Winchester, VA, Health Professions Building.
The Nontraditional (NT) Experiential Education Coordinator will conduct the daily activities necessary to manage the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) program for the Nontraditional Doctor of Pharmacy (NTDP) pathway at the School of Pharmacy. The NT Experiential Education Coordinator will interact with students, preceptors, administrators, faculty and staff. This position requires the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently and reports to the Director of Distance Education.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Perform activities involved in daily operations of the NT APPE program and serve as primary contact for preceptors and students
- Maintain updated Affiliation Agreements with all APPE sites
- Review, analyze and problem-solve issues related to student placement and management of the NT APPE program
- Recruit in- and out-of-state APPE sites and preceptors to meet the demand of School and student preferences
- Educate students regarding requirements pertaining to the NT APPE program, including ensuring student compliance with all health and site requirements
- Ensure all new preceptors and/or sites have been reviewed, approved and educated on the School’s APPE policies and procedures and pertinent student affairs
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures and documentation required for the NT APPE program and accreditation
- Conduct regular quality assessments of APPE sites and preceptors
- Serve as a member of the Experiential Education Committee
- Work jointly and collaboratively with the School’s experiential education team, faculty and staff
- Work with the Director of Distance Education to develop new initiatives for the NT APPE program and activities for student APPE readiness and preceptor development
- Participate in School of Pharmacy and University activities as requested
Required Skills
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, judgment and discretion in carrying out duties
- Knowledge of and proficient use of computer hardware and software, and other contemporary office equipment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to perform basic math calculations
- Ability to develop and knowledge of applicable policies, practices and procedures
- Good organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and provide attention to detail
- Other related experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements
Required Experience
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 3 years of experience in a field related to the position
- Experience working within healthcare education is preferred
- Experience working with graduate students is preferred
