What are the responsibilities and job description for the Rock Band Coordinator position at Shenandoah University?
The Shenandoah University Marching Band is searching for a Rock Band Coordinator. This is a one-year contract stipend position that reports to the Director of Athletic Bands. The Rock Band Instructor will be responsible for leading all aspects of the Shenandoah University Marching Band’s Rock Band Section. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to developing the ability and cohesion of the Rock Band, leading Rock Band rehearsals, and assisting with full ensemble rehearsals. The eight member Rock Band consists of a lead guitarist, rhythm guitarist, bass guitarist, keyboard player, synthesizer player, drum set player, and two sound engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Director of Athletic Bands, instructional staff, and student leadership to ensure that each student achieves success through a positive and constructive manner.
- Attendance at camp, rehearsals, and performances.
- Instruction of fundamental playing techniques for Rock Band members.
- Oversee the rehearsals of the Rock Band and assist in full band settings.
- Assist with developing student leadership skills within the section.
- Arranging and writing music for the Rock Band if capable.
- Manage equipment and communicate any needs for student success.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic Bands.
Required Skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
- Previous experience instructing or performing in a Rock Band is required.
- Rock Band music writing and arranging experience is preferred.
- Management, leadership, and communication skills are required.
Camp Dates and Rehearsal Time
- Band Camp Aug.15-29
- Rehearsals Tuesday and Thursday evenings 4-6pm
- Occasional Friday rehearsals 7-9pm
- Football Games on Saturdays
