Shenandoah Community Health is looking for a Registered Nurse for our Behavioral Health Department at our Winchester, VA location. This position is responsible for providing professional nursing duties for the care of mentally ill and substance abuse patients. The RN provides day to day support to the providers in the department by maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records, communicating with patients through phone and electronic means, processing, and appealing insurance authorizations, and providing hands on care when necessary.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide ongoing written support for all aspects of medical records; thoroughly documents all phone calls and client interactions in EHR accurately and timely
- Collects vital signs and enters data into the EHR.
- Screens medical requests/patient appointments.
- Educates patients on disease process/medications within their scope of practice advised by the provider
- Demonstrates knowledge of the ability to appropriately deescalate verbally in crisis situations
- Administers IM injections as needed
- Assists patients in applying to pharmaceutical companies’ patient assistant programs as appropriate by providers.
- Processes medication insurance prior authorizations as needed.
- Always maintain patient confidentiality and privacy according to SCH policies and procedures; uses discretion when discussing patient matters.
- Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior; communicates well.
- Maintains positive working relationships.
- Exhibits professional standards through appearance and demeanor consistent with SCH standards.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of work assignments and performs assignments in a manner to meet quality and timeliness objectives.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of SCH policies and procedures.
- Complies with applicable safety policies and procedures.
Essential Skills and Education Requirements:
- Behavioral health experience/substance abuse experience required.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited College of Nursing School
- Must have a current nursing license in each state of desired practice.
- Must be familiar with medication prior authorization process.
- Must have some knowledge of commonly used psychiatric medications including long acting injectables.
- Must have computer experience in Microsoft products.
