Supervises: Classroom Teachers within the Science and Technology Departments
Key Responsibilities
- Provide visionary leadership in science, technology and engineering education, ensuring alignment with the District’s goals and Next Generation Science Standards.
- Serve as a member of the principal’s cabinet
- Conduct regular department meetings at the high school and middle schoolsto facilitate communication and collaboration among faculty
- Implement the systems of evaluation and supervision of instruction developed by the District (APPR). This includes, but isn’t limited to observation, report preparation, conferencing, assisting and providing instructional leadership.
- Support the development of curriculum, assessments, and instructional strategies that enhance student engagement and achievement.
- Collaborate with other District Chairperson to lead STEM initiatives across the district, ensuring seamless integration of technology and engineering principles into the science curriculum.
- Assist in computer science initiatives to support the integration of digital literacy, computational thinking, and coding across all STEM disciplines.
- Facilitate professional development workshops and training sessions for science educators on best practices, curriculum updates, and emerging educational technologies.
- Manage the budget, oversee purchasing of instructional materials, and ensure the maintenance of lab equipment and technology resources.
- Act as a liaison to colleges, businesses, and community organizations, fostering partnerships that enhance STEM learning opportunities for students.
- Support the implementation of instructional technology, including Smart Boards, interactive response systems, and digital learning platforms.
- Participate in the selection, mentoring, and supervision of new teachers and staff within the science and technology departments.
- Assist in the coordination of related extracurricular activities, including Honor Society events, STEM expos, and competitions.
Job Qualifications
- Valid New York State School District Leader (SDL) and School Building Leader (SBL) certification required.
- Valid NYS (7-12) Science Certification required.
- Minimum five years of teaching experience in a science-related discipline, with prior leadership or administrative experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of STEM curriculum, instructional technology, and assessment strategies.
- Proven ability to inspire and support educators in delivering high-quality, student-centered instruction.
