What are the responsibilities and job description for the CDL Class A Driver - Structural Steel position at Shepard Steel?
Our company is looking for a CDL Class A Driver with experience in the Structural Steel fabrication industry. This candidate should have at least 3 years of verifiable flatbed tractor trailer experience.
Under the direct supervision of the Production Supervisor, the CDL Driver will be responsible for the safe and reliable transportation of structural steel.
These items include but are not limited to:
* Mark / tag material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
* Operate a 48' - 53' trailer safely
* Perform pre and post trip inspections to ensure safety
* Keep equipment clean and presentable
* Verify paperwork for completeness and accuracy
* No more than (3) moving violations in the previous (3) years
* Not cited for a D.O.T. defined accident in the previous (3) years
* No serious offenses in the previous (7) years or a pattern of unsafe practices
* Delivering and unloading products utilizing equipment, including but not limited to tractor trailer ramps, lift gates, pallet jacks, load bars, and other devices which assist delivery
* Operating vehicle safely while complying with all laws, rules and regulations in order to avoid incidents, accidents, traffic violations, and complaints from the public
* Report any incident/accident immediately to your direct supervisor
* Keeping vehicles well maintained, safe, and secure; report any defects promptly using established protocol
* Ensuring customer orders arrive in quality condition
* Communicating professionally with customers and vendors
* Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Required Skills:
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Ability to speak, read and write in English
* Must have valid CDL Class “A” driver’s license
* Must be at least 21 years of age
* Must have at least (3) years of verifiable flatbed tractor trailer experience
* Ability to meet all DOT requirements
* Physically capable of lifting/pushing/pulling 70 pounds unassisted
* Physically capable of bending/twisting as well as standing for long periods of time
* Able to work well with minimal supervision as well as with other colleagues
* Ability to prioritize tasks and follow specified procedures
* Self-motivated, detail oriented and has a positive attitude
* Willingness to work overtime as needed
* Must be willing to submit to a pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check
