What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Teacher position at Shepherd of the Valley Preschool?
I. QUALIFICATIONS
An Early Childhood Teacher Assistant is a high school graduate or the equivalent. Teacher Assistants must complete the mandated training within 6 months of hire accordning the NMECECD.
II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
A Teacher Assistant must be able to implement class curriculum with supervision and support. A Teacher Assistant should be self-directed and handle impromptu situations appropiately.
1) Understand child development and developmentally appropriate practice in early childhood education.
2) Observe and assess children’s behavior. Assist with portfolios as directed.
3) Maintain a safe and stimulating school environment.
4) Develop trusting relationships with the children to understand their individual needs and offer developmentally appropriate guidance.
5) Support positive relationships with families and strong home-school connections.
6) Act with professionalism and a loyalty to Shepherd of the Valley Preschool.
7) Perform other duties as defined by Lead Teachers and the Preschool Director.
8) Be familiar with the New Mexico Care Licensing Regulations and adhere to them.
III. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. CURRICULUM
Assist Lead Teachers and the Director in implementing the curriculum activities of a developmentally appropriate, high quality early childhood program.
B. FAMILY RELATIONSHIP
The Assistant Teacher shall work under the direction of the Lead Teachers and Director to convey information from families and respond to questions about curriculum implementation. In all ways they should support strong home-school connections.
C. SHEPHERD OF THE VALLEY TEAM
1) Attend and participate in staff meetings and training sessions
2) Attend/assist with school events and parent conferences as needed.
3) Insure that children are always under direct supervision and that teacher/child ratios on the playground are maintained.
4) Be familiar with information about individual children, such as allergies and special instructions. Review the Child Information Questionnaire for each child at the beginning of the school year and throughout the year.
5) Sit and eat lunch with the children daily.
6) Help with housekeeping tasks as assigned or needed.
7) Take responsibility for classroom when lead teacher is out.
8) Support our team approach in carrying out all duties and responsibilities.
9) Be able to lift a child up to 45 pounds.
D. DIRECTOR
1) Promptly convey any concerns to the Director about policies/happenings at the preschool.
2) Communicate goals for the year to the Director in the fall and participate in an end-of-the-year reflection and review in the spring.
3) Provide time sheets, personnel records, forms and receipts promptly as needed.
4) Work with the Director to maintain a personnel notebook current including professional development plan, professional training log, first aid certification, etc.
E. ADMINISTRATIVE
1) Participate in and document at least 24 hours of approved professional training each year.
2) Know and understand the information contained in the current Shepherd of Valley Preschool Handbook
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $15.50 per hour
