Position Title: Navigation Center Specialist
Employment Status: Full-time
Direct Supervisor: Associate Director of The Lighthouse Navigation Center
Location: The Lighthouse Navigation Center, Bend, OR
Physical Working Conditions:
- Office setting within The Lighthouse Navigation Center
- Occasional travel to other locations and community events
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- May require lifting of up to 25 lbs for event setup and operational needs
Position Summary:
We take a team approach to the work we do here. Although each staff member has certain responsibilities that they oversee, we all serve together and support one another to accomplish the work. The Navigation Center Specialist will serve as the first point of contact for participants, visitors, and community partners. This role requires strong customer service skills, the ability to de-escalate situations, excellent organizational abilities, and a high level of adaptability. The Navigation Center Specialists will perform duties and responsibilities to care for the needs of our participants, enhance the fulfillment of our mission, and provide a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Specific Responsibilities/Tasks:
- Provide a welcoming and safe environment at The Lighthouse Navigation Center where participants are encouraged to engage in the community through connection and activities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for participants, visitors, and community partners, answering inquiries and providing information about the Navigation Center's services.
- Manage the front desk operations, including answering phones, directing calls, managing mail, and handling walk-in inquiries.
- De-escalate situations involving participants in a calm and professional manner, ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals present.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming front desk and lobby area.
- Coordinate and manage participant check-ins, maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with center policies.
- Support the Associate Director in creating and facilitating daily activities centered on experiential learning.
- Guide and assist participants in establishing and navigating relationships with their case managers, service providers, and community partners.
- Collaborate with the Navigation Center team, service providers, and volunteers to identify and pursue new and creative ways to address “chronic homelessness” in our region.
- Respond to participant emergencies and callouts as needed, providing immediate support and guidance.
- Fulfill all other relevant duties, tasks, and responsibilities communicated by the Director of the Navigation Center and other SHM supervisors connected with the Navigation Center.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in customer service, social work, or a related field is a plus.
- Previous experience in a customer service role, preferably in a social services or nonprofit setting.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly adaptable and able to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and email communication.
- Familiarity with community resources and services available to individuals experiencing homelessness is desirable.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
Additional Requirements:
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Driver’s License

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
