Job Summary / Basic Function
Shepherd University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of English, with a specialty in early English (medieval / Renaissance) literature, beginning August 2025. Responsibilities would include teaching Shakespeare and other courses in medieval and Early Modern literatures, as well as composition and rhetoric and assuming leadership of the departmental early drama troupe. The position includes a 4 / 4 teaching load.
Minimum Qualifications
ABD in English or Comparative Literature, as long as the dissertation defense happens before August 2025; college-level teaching experience; significant graduate-level course work in medieval and Early Modern literature; significant graduate-level course work in Shakespeare
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in English or Comparative Literature with a specialization in medieval or Renaissance literature; college-level experience teaching Shakespeare; familiarity with the history of the English language; a sensitivity to the challenges faced by economically disadvantaged, first-generation, and underprepared college students; an active scholarly agenda, even if it has only recently begun; engagement with campus and community initiatives; some experience with theatrical performance
