What are the responsibilities and job description for the Residential Counselor, Sheppard Pratt School and Residential Treatment Center - Towson, MD (Full-Time/Nights) position at Sheppard Pratt?
Located on our historic campus in Towson, Maryland, Sheppard Pratt School and Residential Treatment Center (RTC) is a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) approved, level V nonpublic school. We offer a year-round therapeutic educational and residential program catering to youths ages 12-18 with emotional and behavioral challenges. Our comprehensive program offers structured community and recreational activities alongside full-day special and general education schooling.
What to expect.
You will provide guidance and support to students living in a residential treatment setting. Working closely with your students, you will support them as they achieve goals, overcome challenges, and find a path to leading fulfilling lives.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Reinforcing student’s daily living skills and maintaining structure and organization within the residential setting.
- Organizing daily recreational activities, ensuring that students have access to fresh air, leisure activities, and exercise.
- Encouraging and reinforcing behavior according to program standards.
- Providing complete and accurate documentation.
This position offers rich experience and training in using therapeutic approaches while working with children and adolescents in a structured psychiatric program.

Pay for this position is determined on a number of factors, including but not limited to, years and level of related experience.
What we need from you.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must meet Sheppard Pratt’s requirements to operate a company vehicle:
- Be 18 years old with at least 2 years of driving experience.
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- Driving record with 2 points or less for the 3 most recent years of driving history.
