What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Director of Access (Full Time, Towson) position at Sheppard Pratt?
General Summary:
- Directs the activities of the Admissions Office, to include intake and referrals to inpatient services of the Towson and Baltimore Washington hospital locations, and Towson campus urgent assessment services.
- Supervises leadership of the following areas: Admissions, Intake, Psychiatric Urgent Care.
- Monitors and reports trends and issues that impact admissions and patient days.
- Builds and maintains effective relationships with area acute care hospitals to facilitate admissions and transfers.
- Manages department budget and supervises assigned staff.
- Assesses opportunities to build relationships with outside hospitals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Work requires a professional knowledge of psychological and psychiatric illnesses and treatment modalities and program management - acquired through one of the following combinations of experience and education;

Master’s degree plus 3 year’s post-Master’s experience or;

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant post-degree experience.

- Must have comprehensive knowledge of and experience with: human resource management; department leadership; clinical assessment and triage, medical and mental health-related community services; Microsoft Office applications; electronic patient registration and billing systems; electronic medical record systems; managed behavioral health care issues and insurance requirements/constraints.
- Work requires interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate effectively with patients, families, internal staff, and outside agency personnel in providing evaluations, referrals, and in gathering and exchanging patient information; to manage staff; to communicate health system services to a variety of referrers and the general public.
