Sheridan County Communications is accepting applications for a full time position. The number working days in a month for full time employees is about 15 (12-hour shifts) or 36-40 hours per week. Starting salary will depend on qualifications of successful applicant with the minimum starting salary being $15.50 per hour. Pay is negotiable based on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Answer emergency calls promptly and efficiently, gathering essential information from callers.
  • Dispatch appropriate emergency services while providing clear instructions and support to callers.
  • Maintain accurate records of calls and responses, ensuring data entry is precise and timely.
  • Utilize communication skills to manage high-stress situations and negotiate effectively with distressed individuals.
  • Stay updated on local geography and emergency protocols to enhance dispatch efficiency.
  • All other duties as assigned or deemed necessary by the Communications Director

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school Diploma or GED
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Valid Kansas Photo ID
  • Successfully complete the 60-day Dispatch training, and NCIC certification
  • Must pass all certification requirements
  • Have good typing & legible writing skills
  • Ability to reduce rambling and disconnected material into concise and accurate messages
  • Ability to think and act promptly in emergencies
  • Ability to analyze a situation accurately and to take or suggest an effective course of action
  • Must possess ability to communicate professionally; both orally and in writing with a service-oriented approach, sometimes in stressful circumstances
  • Must possess professional work ethics, manner, and appearance
  • Must possess the ability to operate general office equipment, including but not limited to: telephone, computer and operating systems, computer software programs (Microsoft Office programs), fax/copier machine
  • Must possess a proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the position
  • A record of satisfactory attendance and performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.50 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week
