What are the responsibilities and job description for the BHMS Counselor position at Sheridan County School District 1?
- Provide academic counseling to help students set and achieve their educational goals.
- Provide social and emotional support to students as it relates to academic achievement, including motivation, stress management, and goal setting.
- Coordinates with teachers, resource specialists and/or community (e.g. service clubs, courts, child protective services, etc.) for the purpose of providing/receiving requested information and/or making recommendations.
- Prepares a wide variety of materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
- Assist with course selection, scheduling, and academic planning.
- Identify students who need additional academic support and coordinate intervention strategies.
- Monitor student progress and collaborate with teachers to address academic challenges.
- Support students in preparing for high school, including understanding graduation requirements and career pathways.
- Analyze student performance data to identify trends and develop strategies for academic improvement.
- Work with parents and guardians to support student learning and academic success.
- State certification/licensure as a School Counselor.
- Experience in academic advising or student support.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and families to promote academic success.
