AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:


Teaching Spanish classes to high school students (9th to 12th grade) and providing English Language Learner instruction K-12. Development in assigned students of skill and understanding of subject area.


Need to be enthusiastic, positive and have a passion for teaching Spanish; a demonstrated ability to utilize technology and differentiate instruction is desired; excellent skills in communicating with students, staff and parents; courses to be taught will range from basic level to AP Spanish classes.


SUMMARY
: Instructs classes so that students develop individual skills in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of the assigned language, and an understanding of the related culture(s). Provide a classroom experience which contributes to individual and group excellence. Promote the development of character, leadership, cooperation, and respect for others that will make the students a better citizen.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned.

  • Teaches district approved curriculum.
  • Teaches the skills, knowledge, and processes of the subject area.
  • Uses planned sequences of instruction__including devised drills and activities__so that students acquire skills in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of the assigned language.
  • Teaches students to converse so that they can carry on a conversation in the foreign language.
  • Teaches students to use correct pronunciation, inflection, and intonation.
  • Teaches students to read and write the assigned language with accuracy and ease.
  • Teaches students in such a way as to enhance their knowledge of basic English skills.
  • Teaches the students to know and appreciate the culture(s) germane to the target language.
  • Includes in the instructional format materials and activities leading students to discover how the study of a foreign language relates to careers.
  • Recommends appropriate placement which will encourage students to continue their study of the language.
  • Selects materials and activities appropriate for the instructional and maturity level of the students.
  • Identifies, diagnoses, and prescribes remediation for individual and group problems in use of the language.
  • Ensures that the assigned language is used as much as possible during the class period.
  • Keeps the safety and welfare of students above all other considerations.
  • Monitors the behavior of all students assigned.
  • Assumes responsibility for accompanying all assigned students on field trips or other off campus visits.
  • Submits a list of all students absent or tardy to the attendance secretary at the end of each period.
  • Reports and records any injury immediately.
  • Maintains the condition of the classroom.
  • Submits an inventory of furniture, teaching materials, and books at the end of each year.
  • Fills out properly and submits to the secretary all forms pertaining to grades, absences, competencies, class loads, etc.
  • Knows and understands all policies, regulations, and procedures of the school and school district.
  • Follows proper procedures when purchasing school items.
  • Remains current in professional growth and inservice training.
  • Assesses the accomplishment of students on a regular basis and maintains such records as required by law.
  • Assumes other duties as may be assigned by the principal or designee.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises classroom and students.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Completion of course work satisfying the requirement for issuance of a valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate endorsement in the designated assignment.
  • Speaks and writes the target language fluently with acceptable pronunciation, intonation, and stress.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach students to be successful learners through student teacher, internship or temporary/regular teaching experience.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Oregon Teaching License with Endorsements in High School Spanish and ESOL are required for this position.
  • Demonstrated abilities (written and/or oral) to plan classroom instruction around District philosophy, goals and learner outcomes.
  • Educational training in secondary education.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
