JOB DESCRIPTION
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. 190 day contract.
2. Job Type: Licensed Teacher/Athletic Coach.
3. Reports to: Campus Principal or Designee and Athletic Director.
4. Salary based on district Licensed Salary Schedule and current Licensed
Additional Duty Scale for the position.
5. FLSA Status: Exempt.
6. 10 days sick leave per year of employment.
7. 3 days personal leave per year of employment.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current or pending Arkansas Department of Education teaching license for the
grade level and/or subject area assigned as well as a valid coaching certification
through the ADE or Arkansas Activities Association (AAA).
2. Must possess knowledge in all areas of responsibility as well as law and local policy.
3. Must be computer literate with at least the ability to send and receive email with
attachments, produce memos, navigate the internet as required by position
responsibilities, accurately complete and submit forms or reports as required, etc.
4. Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions, policies, and procedures.
5. Must be attentive to details, a self-starter, able to work effectively without constant
or direct supervision. Must be able to multi-task.
6. Must be of good moral character and strictly follow the Code of Ethics for Arkansas Educators.
7. Must have good communication and organizational skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
8. Hold a valid CDL or obtain a CDL within a reasonable length of time.
9. Be an active member of the Arkansas Coaches Association and the National
Federation of High School Coaches.
GENERAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):
1. Direct the learning experiences of students to meet planned instructional
objectives.
2. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by the ADE,
Board policies, and administrative regulations.
3. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis by testing students,
recording grades, and providing progress reports to parents and appropriate
professionals as directed by the district.
4. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and
Board policy.
5. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
6. Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with
Board policies, the student handbook, and administrative regulations.
7. Take reasonable caution to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
8. Maintain accurate, complete records as required by law, district policy, and
administrative regulations.
9. If needed, assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional
material.
10. Be responsible for supervising the proper usage of teaching supplies, classroom
equipment, and other instructional materials.
11. Attend and participate in faculty meetings, required professional development,
and/or any other meetings required by campus or district administration.
12. Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality in accordance with district policy
and campus expectations.
13. Sponsor and accept responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned or
approved by the campus or district administration.
14. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, and parents.

15. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing
instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
16. Work to maintain and improve professional competence.
17. Accept and respond appropriately to supervision.
18. Provide lesson plans as expected by campus administration.
19. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
ASSISTANT COACH DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Summary: A person in the position of Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Coach with all assigned duties along with coaching and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve at a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork.
1. Follows and maintains knowledge of all district policies and procedures.
2. Exhibits loyalty to the Head Coach and the Sheridan School District sports
programs.
3. Assists instruction and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for
individual and team achievement.
4. Assists in planning and setting-up activities, practices, and games.
5. Respects time allotted to practices as determined by the Head Coach. Attends
work, all practices, and games as required and is punctual.
6. Travels with student athletes on the team bus both to and from games. Drives a
bus as needed or requested.
7. Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy
lifestyles.
8. Supervises students in locker rooms at home and away games and ensures
appropriate behavior.
9. Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times.
10. Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, fellow
coaches, and officials and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
11. Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with students,
parents, community, staff and the media.
12. Completes and maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as
required, including Arkansas Activities Association (AAA) Coaches Certification
Courses.
ASSISTANT COACH DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (cont.):
12. Complies with applicable district, state, local and federal laws, rules, and
regulations.
13. Other duties as assigned by the sport Head coach, athletic director, or
administration.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS and/or REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to meet the requirements of the job based on grade level, nature of the teaching assignment along with any associated supervisory duties that may be assigned (i.e. cafeteria duty, playground duty, bus duty, etc.) Must be able to see up close and at a distance. Must have the dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilies of the job.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to read and follow a variety of instructions on district, state, and federal websites as well as hard copy.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondences. Requires the ability to prepare lessons, reports, etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of grammar.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to give oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively. Must possess the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control, and confidence. Must be able to deliver effective presentations to both small and large audiences.
