Sports Medicine Teacher Job Description
Terms of Employment:
- Minimum 190 day contract. Additional days may be added based on teaching assignment or additional responsibilities.
- District salary schedule based on education and experience.
- FLSA Status: Exempt
- 10 days Sick Leave per year of employment.
- 3 days Personal Leave per year.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Arkansas teaching license for the grade level or subject area assigned (Sports Medicine, 625).
- Licensed in Arkansas to practice as an Athletic Trainer, Physical Therapist, or Physical Therapy Assistant.
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology or Exercise Physiology/Science.
- Pass all required criminal background checks (Arkansas State Police, FBI, and Central Registry check) at personal expense ($49.75).
- Meet Highly Qualified Teacher designation requirements if applicable to the teaching assignment.
- Ability to perform duties while following district policies and state and federal regulations, guidelines, and laws.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret printed instructions, professional journals, handbooks, bulletins, announcements, etc.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and work cooperatively with students, peers, and parents.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions or instructions.
- Demonstrate skill in written and oral communication, including presenting information and responding to questions from groups.
- Demonstrate adequate computer skills, including Internet research and data entry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, sports medicine, injury prevention, injury treatment, rehabilitation practices, and psychosocial aspects of sports medicine.
- Direct the learning experiences of students to meet planned instructional objectives.
- Teach district-approved curriculum based on guidelines established by the school district, state frameworks, and federal regulations.
- Prepare for assigned classes by developing lesson plans and instructional materials.
- Evaluate pupils' academic growth through various assessments and keep records.
- Identify pupil needs, make referrals, and develop strategies to support students with IEPs or other accommodations.
- Collaborate with staff members to plan instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
- Develop and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment.
- Maintain accurate records as required by district policy or law.
- Be responsible for supervising the use of learning materials, equipment, or other instructional material.
- Communicate regularly with various publics to develop a positive school/community relationship.
- Support and attend extra-curricular activities when possible.
- Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality.
- Maintain high moral values and follow state and local laws, rules, guidelines, and standards.
- Follow and implement all district policies and state and federal law or guidelines.
- Accept and respond to supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration.
