JOB TITLE: Social Worker
LOCATION:  Sheridan  High School
WORK YEAR:  187 work days, 7.5 hours/day, Monday - Friday
WORK STATUS:  Licensed, Full-Time Exempt
REPORTS TO: School Principal 

This position is for the 2024-2025 school year and is probationary unless the selected candidate is hired after the first student day.  Per Master Agreement, when a position is filled after the opening of school by an individual who was not employed by the District in the previous school year, that employee will receive a one-year temporary contract.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide a range of services for students who demonstrate difficulties with learning, academic achievement, social/emotional functioning and behavior.  Serve as a mental health service provider involved in proactive, preventative activities, as well as responding to identified concerns.  Provide serviced based on a combination of problem solving, consultative and direct service models. A portion of this position is grant funded.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop individual, group or system level interventions which improve identified problems or concerns, including academic, social/ emotional/ behavioral/ mental health needs as they relate to educational progress.
  • Uses research-based and technically sound practices to drive decision-making and interventions; and collaborates with school personnel and parents in order to develop and modify student intervention strategies.
  • Facilitates functional assessment of behavior (FBA) and designs/implements Behavior Intervention Plans as well as progress monitors intervention plans.
  • Conducts, interprets and implements student assessments which includes record review, interview, observation and standardized assessment.
  • Administers and interprets norm-referenced and curriculum based assessment measures.
  • Participates in team-based follow up activities to review student progress, analyze data and modify individual interventions.
  • Reviews school wide assessment data to assist building staff(s) in interpreting and designing school wide interventions.
  • Serve as liaison among district building(s), families and community and collaborates with various teams to assure positive outcomes for all learners.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary staffings to determine the eligibility, appropriate planning and reevaluation for students who require special education service/programs.
  • Comply with Exceptional Student services and district policies and procedures (i.e. Medicaid billing, accident reporting).
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Required
  •  Bachelors Degree or Higher in Social Work
Preferred
  •  Previous social work in an Alternative Education Campus setting of a similar demographic 
 
Licenses or Certification:

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL TEACHING AND SPECIAL SERVICES POSITIONS

 
  •  Must hold a Colorado Alternative, Provisional, or Professional Social Worker License with appropriate endorsements.
  • Completed a state approved Social Worker Preparation Program or participation in an Alternative License program.
  • Demonstrates subject matter competency by one of the following means:
  • Hold an endorsement in the subject area Special Service Provider through The Colorado Department of Education
  • Pass the appropriate subject area PLACE or PRAXIS exam in Colorado or in a CDE approved state
 
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill regarding the components of effective instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of content and teaching methods in area(s) of counseling assignment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmental needs of students.
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative relationships with school personnel, students and parents.
  • Demonstrated understanding and empathy necessary for working with students.
 
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions required the following physical demands:  some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling: and signification fine finger dexterity.  Generally the job requires sitting, walking, and standing.  This job is performed in generally a clean and healthy environment. Ability to perform all parts of assignment.

None

CLEARANCE:
Must clear online background check and FBI Fingerprint check through Colorado Bureau of Investigation. 

SALARY:
Placement on Licensed Teacher salary schedule based upon previous teaching experience and highest degree and college credits earned after student teaching was completed. Current Board approved Licensed Teacher Salary Schedule, Salary Placement Policy, and Master Agreement are available for review on our district website at www.ssd2.org.  Highest initial step placement on the Licensed Salary Schedule is Step 9.

The annual salary for this position will be determined by number of hours scheduled to work each day and number of days scheduled to work each year.  The computed annual salary will be spread out in equal payments over 12 months. Sheridan School District employees are paid once a month on the last working day of the month that is not a weekend day or holiday.

BENEFITS:
Employees who are scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week are eligible to obtain district health benefits which include medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance and supplemental benefits.  Positions that qualify for health benefits also qualify for leave which could include vacation and daily leave to be determined by the position and number of days assigned.  Sheridan School District No. 2 is a public employer and participates in the Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association (PERA). All employees are required by state statute to contribute 11% of salary on a pre-tax basis. The District contributes 22% in addition to employee contribution.
