Position Summary
The Director of Inmate Services is the operating executive principally responsible for the direction, operation, and quality of Inmate Services for the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office. Inmate Services shall be defined as education, vocational education, library service, religious services, substance abuse and volunteer activities.
Supervision Received:
Receives general direction and oversight from the Chief of Inmate Services and Programs performing duties in accordance with all best management practices and established guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the care, custody and supervision of inmates.
Responsible for the general oversight of all inmate service functions of the Sheriff's Office. This includes but is not limited working in conjunction with the Captain of Programs, Human Services and Education Departments in developing action plans to best utilize resources, including personnel and equipment within budgetary constraints for the purpose of providing necessary services for the inmate population of the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office as well as supplying the Chief of Inmate Services and Programs with the appropriate, accurate and timely data.
Responsible for Inmate Services compliance with the Code of Massachusetts Regulations and with Massachusetts Department of Corrections audits.
Supervises all Inmate Services staff and monitor time and attendance for all Inmate Service staff for Sheriff's Office employees as well as for contractors and employees of contractors.
Performs employee evaluations for all employees involved with Inmate Services.
Provides Chief of Inmate Services and Programs with appropriate, accurate and timely data for budget preparations, annual performance reviews of the Inmate Services personnel and expenditure documentation.
Manages grants that supplement Inmate Services programs and activities.
Coordinates the execution of agreements with providers of Inmate Services and support systems, as appropriate, subject to approval of the Sheriff, or designee. Coordinates the delivery of the facility's services with outside agencies and community providers.
Assists Classification in providing information to assist in placing inmates in appropriate units for treatment.
Works closely with the Case Managers to assure that inmates have a bridge to the community and court system.
Conducts regular staff meetings.
Works closely with community resources to provide assistance with job placement and continued treatment after release.
Provide training to Barnstable County Sheriff's Office staff.
Develops curriculum of inmate programs in relation to best practice policy.
Researches and implements any additional treatment programs requested by the Sheriff.
Maintains the standards of the ACA and DOC.
Responsible for ensuring commitment to the mission and philosophy of the BCSO.

Qualifications
A Master’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in counseling, psychology, or a similar area of study is required.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in substance abuse treatment in a correctional facility setting or similar area of work is required.
A minimum of one (1) year of experience in an administrative role is required.
