Position Summary
This Sourcing Manager will be responsible for implementing Sherman Reilly’s sourcing strategies and developing a strategic sourcing program to support new product development and sustaining engineering. This role will oversee and support the strategic procurement process. The Sourcing Manager will act as a technical liaison between Engineering and Supply Chain to communicate requirements, identify new suppliers, and develop existing suppliers.
Reporting Relationships
This position will report to the Supply Chain Manager. This role is a part of the cross functional Supply Chain team comprised of Purchasing and Quality. This position must work closely with Procurement, Quality, Engineering, Product Development, Operations, and Finance, and interface effectively with all levels and departments within the organization.
Requirements:Primary Responsibilities
- Participate in new product development by coordinating all sourcing and supplier qualification activities.
- Review new product releases and engineering changes and attend design reviews to communicate ongoing needs to Procurement and Quality.
- Manage new model or engineering change parts sourcing and cost establishment.
- Work with engineering to implement cost saving activities concurrent with new model development/implementation by leading supplier design reviews, resourcing, negotiations, etc. with supply base.
- Purchase materials and services as required to support sourcing activities.
- Work with Design Engineering to decide order level of purchase parts.
- Support new product development and ECO process by submitting change requests, preparing print packages for RFQs, identifying suppliers to quote, analyzing quotes, and working with SQE to communicate quality requirements. Communicate internally with different functional areas and externally with suppliers and prepare periodic progress reports and presentations.
- Support planning decisions for EC implementations to minimize obsolete components
- Lead supplier qualification processes alongside Quality by identifying, validating, and selecting new suppliers.
- Review supplier performance, manage related performance metrics, and adjust supplier sourcing as needed.
- Utilize product knowledge to provide alternative product solutions or recommendations in competitive situations or when a functional equivalent is permitted.
- Provide training in sourcing strategies and best practices for the Procurement team and other departments as needed.
- Develop category and product knowledge for: fabricated and cast components, mechanical components, power train systems, fluid transfer & control, hydraulic and pneumatic components, electronics and electrical components, etc.
- Monitor current market conditions and technological advancement of purchased commodities and identify challenges and opportunities.
- Lead and/or represent supply chain and operations on functional sub-teams where appropriate.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Experience
- BS Degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or
- 3 years of experience in sourcing and procurement and familiarity with manufacturing and industrial operations
- Experience sourcing and purchasing fabricated and cast components, mechanical components, power train systems, fluid transfer & control, hydraulic and pneumatic components, electronics and electrical components, etc.
- Demonstrated understanding of technical and design documentation, the design cycle, and multilevel bill of materials
- Cost accounting knowledge and material cost knowledge
- SAP experience including MRP, Purchasing, Engineering Control, BOM, Quality Control, and Warehouse
- Strong analytical, mathematical, reasoning, problem solving and organizational and project management skills
- Strong in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Power BI, and Visio
- Independently driven problem solver with appetite to address complex challenges in a fast-moving environment
- Excellent negotiation skills & strategic mindset
- Must be willing to travel up to 15% to supplier facilities
- Ability to build relationships and partnerships to collaboratively execute business strategies
