CLASS DEFINITION: Positions in this class are characterized by their association with direct instruction process for students in the general education classroom. Positions within this class require the ability to work with children in the classroom, gym, or playground under the general supervision of the site or service administrator. Within this class, levels are differentiated by the credentials, degree of skills and expertise required to perform successfully within the assignment. POSITION DEFINITION: Under general supervision to provide instruction to students within credential authorized service; supervise the classroom and playground activities of students; plan as necessary with other staff members for the effective delivery of instruction for students; maintain records to demonstrate and evaluate students educational/social/emotional progress; and to do related work as required. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: • Provide daily instruction to students in authorized and assigned subject areas • Provide for adequate planning for students’ instructional programs both long and short term • Provide an orderly, functional and attractive learning environment for students • Work cooperatively with others in the school to provide for coordinated services for students • Maintain necessary records to evaluate student learning and periodically report that progress to the parent/student/supervisor • Maintain regular contact with the parents/guardians about student progress • Maintain high level of skill and expertise in the subject matters assigned to teacher and in strategies by which to teach those subjects • Implement district and school policies regarding the instruction of students

Overall Responsibilities
Provide instruction using principles of human development and appropriate learning strategies to enable students to make academic, vocational, and/or personal growth.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Teaches reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science/health, art, music, physical education, and technology to students utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Trustees.

  2. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and prepare materials needed to assist students.

  3. Maintains positive relationships with all parents through “back-to-school” events, classroom visitations, conferences, telephone conversations, written communication, and work samples so that parents are aware of their children’s school progress and adjustment.

  4. Carries out assigned pupil supervision outside the classroom such as yard duty, assemblies, athletic events, and extracurricular activities, and fire and other emergency drills.

  5. Implement policies, procedures, and mandates as required.

  6. Prepare and submit requested reports and plans in an accurate and timely manner.

  7. Participate in School, District, and department activities and meetings including professional development. 

  8. Exhibit a positive outlook toward the educational process by maintaining professional rapport with colleagues, parents, students, and members of the community.

  9. Work, communicate, consult and cooperate with other members of the school staff, including administration, counseling, clerical, and other teachers including those having posts of special responsibility and parents/guardians to ensure the best interest of students.

  10. Plan and coordinate the work of aides and other paraprofessionals and student teachers (when applicable).

  11. Foster positive relationships between students, staff, and community members.

  12. Supervise students to assure their safety.

  13. Monitor student achievement and adjust instructions in response to student data.

  14. Participate in all IEP’s, 504’s, and SST’s, even if they are after 3:15.  *

  15. Participate in all Family Night Events, such as New Parent Orientation, Burger Bash, Patriotic Concert, Open House-Spring, Graduation, etc. *

  16. Provide detailed emergency lesson plans for substitutes.  

  17. Follow all Osha/Covid-19 protocols set in place. 

  18. Other related duties as assigned.


*Your yearly bonus is given to pay for these after contract events. 

Qualifications
Specific knowledge of:
*Content of instructional assignment.
*Principles of learning, instruction, and assessment appropriate to the assignment.

  1. Assist in an array of learners in developing age-appropriate knowledge and skills.

  5. Conduct responsibilities of the position based on information and instructions provided in English.

  6. Learn and appropriately apply District policies and procedures and other regulations related to the position.

  7. Apply strategies appropriate to the age level of the assigned students.

  8. Maintain appropriate confidentiality about the status of students, classroom, and school activities.

  9. Gather and analyze data to determine student’s abilities and instructional needs.

  10. Operate calculator, computer, and data entry terminal.

  11. Learn and apply current technology to assigned duties.

    Education:
    1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
    2. Graduate-level coursework in education.

    Experience:
    1. Completion of student teaching.

    License:
    1. Valid California Teaching Credential for age/subject assigned.

2. Valid California Driver’s Licence
