Alton, IL non profit organization seeks a highly competent and experienced Attorney to serve as their Vice President of Human Resources (VP of HR). This position will be responsible for developing, implementing, and measuring strategic HR plans and policies to support the organization’s mission and strategy. The Vice President of Human Resources reports to the Chief Executive Officer and serves as a member of the Strategic Operations team.
Responsibilities:
This position supports all aspects of human resources activities, including and not limited to collective bargaining, recruitment, and retention, benefits, human resources information system management, employee benefits, investigations, employee grievances, workplace injuries, and leave of absence. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable workplace laws and regulations and is responsible for providing leadership and support to our staff members within the Human Resources department.
Experience:
• At least 5 years of proven experience as a Vice President of Human Resources or another senior leadership role within the human resources area.
• Must be licensed in Illinois and/or Missouri.
• Experience in strategic planning and implementation.
• Deep knowledge of HR functions and the practical application of HR Functions (talent management, recruitment, DEIB, etc.).
• Ability to use metrics and analytics for the reporting of data.
• Knowledge of local and international labor law.
• Ability to develop complete and accurate reports.
• Specialized negotiating skills, as well as experience regarding brokering compromise and making sure that the needs of all parties are reasonably met.
• Well-organized with excellent leadership qualities.
• Experience in a team-based, cross-functional work environment with effective and respectful communication as a top priority.
• Certification (e.g., PHR/SPHR) is nice-to-have.

Core Responsibilities:
Carries out the Mission of the organization by completing the following functions:
• Collaborate with management and executives.
• Hire, guide, and evaluate the work of HR team.
• Develop strategic HR plans and policies (recruitment, training, compensation etc.).
• Re-engineer processes to ensure maximum efficiency.
• Manage recruitment, interview, selection, and hiring processes.
• Oversee employee benefits and health and safety programs.
• Oversee the background check process and ensure compliance.
• Work as a liaison with our Board of Directors Human Resources Committee.
• Facilitate and monitor the implementation of standardized human resource processes.
• Adhere to internal policies and legal standards; ensure effective compliance with labor laws.
• Oversee the collective bargaining process, ensuring compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and managing labor relations.
• Complete staffing analysis and optimize the employee scheduling process.
• Decide and act on initiatives for equal opportunity and diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
• Evaluate and update antiquated systems.
• Analyze HR effectiveness using business metrics and KPIs.
• Accept emergency calls after hours.
• Other duties as assigned.
