Corporate Counsel at Shiel Sexton
The role of Corporate Counsel for Shiel Sexton is to provide legal advice and support to ensure effective risk management and compliance with construction regulations. Primary focus will be risk management, subcontractor contract review, and resolution of contract disputes. This position is responsible for identification, analysis, administration, monitoring, measuring, and management of risk in support of the Company’s policies and procedures in collaboration with key risk stakeholders. This position reports to General Counsel.
- Work with risk manager in the purchase of insurance programs, management of claims and loss control activities, identification of exposures with recommended solutions, implementation of approved programs, and promotion of loss prevention.
- Monitor and update compliance with insurance procedures.
- Mange all claims related activities including mediation, arbitration, and litigation.
- Analyze and negotiate all types of contracts including subcontractor agreements.
- Educate Operations staff to understand contracting, on-site exposures, and claims avoidance and mitigation techniques.
- Oversee licensing and compliance.
- Negotiate subcontracts.
- Work with Risk Management to develop, oversee and support crisis management plans, including training.
- Stay up to date on relevant construction laws, regulations, and case law to provide accurate legal advice.
- Assist in matters of the General Counsel relating to corporate legal matters.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills/Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of experience in construction law, business litigation, transactional work, and/or corporate governance. Employment law experience helpful but not required.
- Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in Indiana
- Strong interpersonal skills, including verbal communication, presentation, and relationship building
- Exceptionally organized in thought and documentation
- Excellent follow-through skills as well as the ability to multi-task
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
