Role Overview
The Cell & Gene Therapy Coordinator (Clinical) provides comprehensive coordination of all services and systems to provide an organized and efficient multi-disciplinary team approach for the care of patients receiving advanced therapies. The role will help to shape the development and evolution of advanced therapies, serving to enhance its overall effectiveness, productivity, and quality. This position serves as the glue for facilitating an organized and comprehensive approach to the management of patients undergoing advanced therapies across settings of care and the trajectory of illness - delivering the best possible clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and provider satisfaction in the process. The role reports to the Director of Clinical Operations.
Core Responsibilities
Patient & Therapy Coordination / Facilitation
- Coordinate the entry and integration of prospective patients into and through the process ensuring timely evaluations and collaboration among the different disciplines involved, including but not limited to the following duties:
- Execute bespoke pathways tailored to each product covered by the advanced therapy program across service lines and therapeutic programs
- Develop timeline for therapy based on patient status, product availability, and program schedule
- Ensure evaluations including testing are completed in accordance with program SOPs and in the appropriate timeframe to meet timeline
- Coordinate with manufacturer to ensure manufacturing slot is secured and facilitated and financial assistance is facilitated and secured (if appropriate)
- Coordinate with insurer, pharmacy vendors and/or pharmacy to ensure mobilization medications are available within desired timeframe
- Communicate with patients and caregivers across care journey, including appointments, testing and procedures, consents, and documentation
- Collaborate with the inpatient and outpatient medical care teams and other services (apheresis, radiology, radiation therapy, cell therapy laboratory, OR, etc.) to coordinate and schedule mobilization, collection, admission and infusion
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders if/when there is overlap with research (expanded access protocol, off-label use, etc.)
- Assess patient/family physiologic, psychosocial and financial needs. Based upon assessment, make recommendations to social work, financial planning, etc.
- Coordinate transportation, housing, meals, and other patient support programs
- Educate patients and families to assist understanding of the disease, processes and procedures related to mobilization, collection and infusion of cellular therapy products
- Collaborate with program's Financial Coordinators and hospital finance to ensure all required approvals are obtained for procedures as appropriate
- Coordinate all aspects of patient's care, from enrollment to transition of care, and through 15-year follow up, including facilitating data collection requirements
- Transition patient case to appropriate team
- Accountable to ensure that all patients who are being evaluated receive care in an organized, consistent, efficient, and high-quality manner
Program Development
- Participate in the development of systems and tools for management of the function, including:
- Developing and operationalizing workflows for internal and external patient identification, enrollment, care coordination, and support across all products, disease programs, and sites of care
- Establishing data collection/tracking standards and the development of a data repository and tracking tool over time
- Participate in the development and implementation of clinical programs and procedures and the program's performance improvement and quality programs to promote positive outcomes
- Ensure any data handled at any point throughout the patient journey is tracked in an accurate, organized and consistent manner and made available to quality and/or data management personnel
- Serve as a clinical and educational consultant to the nursing staff, medical staff, management, other members of the health care team and external vendors regarding the management of advanced therapy patients
- Opportunities to participate in the growth of the program and business unit, including participating in/travelling to the implementation/integration of programs at other health systems
Experience
The ideal candidate will have 5 years of experience in oncology, cell and gene therapy, and/or bone marrow transplant nursing or nurse coordination services. RN license in NY is preferred. Bachelor's degree required.
Compensation
- The base salary for this role is expected to be between $120,000 and $150,000 with bonus opportunity tied to quality metrics/outcomes.
