Community Projects & Outreach Specialist
Salary: $24.03 to $28.84 (hourly) Non-Exempt
Full Time : Monday to Friday : 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

SHIELDS’ mission is to develop, deliver and evaluate culturally sensitive, comprehensive service models that empower and advocate for high-risk families in South Los Angeles
Primary Duties
- Provide direct support and assistance with implementing and supporting Thriving Families Safer Children (TFSC) program, inclusive of identifying and engaging community members in TFSC activities.
- Assist TFSC community members with developing TFSC plan and implementing community projects and events as identified, including team building activities, community projects and advocacy and leadership training.
- Attend county-wide TFSC program meetings with Casey Family Programs and TFSC providers, and other meetings or events as scheduled.
- Ensure activities and support provided to community are consistent with the TFSC vision and goals.
- Document all program activities, maintain program data, activity sign-in sheets, monthly reports to lead agency, community members surveys, and other records as needed
- Maintain positive working relationships with local community members, community partners and other TFSC providers.
- Attend supervision, program staff meetings, and program events as scheduled.
- Attend other meetings, in-service and outside training as required.

Requirements

To perform effectively in this position, the employee in this position is required to have:
- Bilingual Spanish, fluent in reading and writing in English/Spanish
- Basic advocacy and prevention skills.
- Lived experience in the Child Welfare, Probation or Parole systems
- Ability to present information in a clear concise manner at community meetings
- Present ideas, information, and viewpoints clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Efficiently use the personal computer to include a variety or word processing software.
- Utilize analysis, lived experience, and judgment to make decisions.
- Demonstrate commitment to team objectives and SHIELDS For Families philosophies.
- Adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
- Provides services within a culturally sensitive, ethnic informed model of practice and is respectful to the community and clients.
- Experience working with an under-served population is preferred. Have access to reliable transportation.
- This position will require the employee to attend in person community events and meetings in the South Los Angeles communities.
- A valid California driver's license is required for this position, as driving is an essential function of the role and is required for field work, client crisis response and emergencies. A valid car insurance and registration is required.

This job is required to have a High School diploma or equivalent, and the ability to work with high-risk families/children, in the South Los Angeles Community
