What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cafe Manager position at Shift Cyclery and Coffee Bar?
Coffee
- Knowledge about coffee production, regions, notes
- Curate Pour Over offerings, brew methods
- Source Batch/Espresso/Cold Brew offerings
- Curate Retail offerings on weekly basis
- Maintain strong relationships with Roasters
- Cost/price analysis each week
- Weekly Ordering
- Updating staff on new coffees via Slack/in person
- Staff training/tasting
- Create new Products in Square for retail
- Sales tracking
Food & Beverage Safety
- Food Safety Certification
- Alcohol Certification
- Keep food/bev inventory up to date, maintaining good practices (FIFO)
- Dispose of expired/damaged products & record losses
- Rotate milks & other perishable items
- Train staff in food/bev safety regulations
- Keep up to date with safety changes/guidelines
- Ready for Health Inspection at all times
Inventory/Supply Ordering/Inventory (Using best price practices, through each vendor’s account via email, phone calls, wholesale websites, etc.)
Employee Management/Scheduling
- Coordinate availability and requests off with staff via Slack & Square
- Schedule training shifts for new employees
- Barista team monthly schedule (4-6 hours)
- Meet every employee’s needs, requests off, and availability
- Adjust schedule for conflicts
- Schedule baristas with knowledge of highest efficiency
- Bike Side team monthly schedule (coordinate with Bike Management)
- Add bakery team monthly schedule to Square
- Coordinate events schedule with help of Event Coordinator, staffing appropriately
- Weekly meetings with ownership/management
Shift Coverage Outside of Base Management Hours
- Notifications during all open shop hours in case emergency coverage needed
- Arrange coverage due to sick employees/emergencies
- Cover Sick shifts if no one is available
Staff Support
- Train staff and maintain proper food/beverage handling
- Help team maintain efficiency/ flow and customer service
- Periodically meet one on one with barista & bakery staff for performance check-ins
- Support staff in times of crisis
- Send reminders via slack for daily happenings (with help of Assistant Manager)
- Answer Slack communications/notifications on and off the clock
- Encourage a healthy team dynamic
- With help of Assistant Manager, create and update 3 daily checklists (Opening tasks, Daily & Closing tasks)
- Follow through with baristas to ensure vital daily operational tasks are completed; step in to complete the tasks as needed
- Slow season/monthly tasks
- Communicate Bakery Manager & Assistant Baker’s performance
- Staff warnings/terminations
Equipment/Maintenance of Equipment/ Replacement/Parts
New Employees/Set up and conduct Interviews (Bakery/Baristas)
Events/Work with Event Coordinator & owners to coordinate event details with client
Specialty Drink Curation: ingredients, testing and pricing
Bakery Oversight & Daily Barista Duties

Pay: From $17.00 per hour
