Information & Educational Technology (IET) at UC Davis has a need for a Data Center Lead Network Administrator. Under general supervision of the Data Center Services Manager, this position will provide day-to-day network support for L2 and L3 data center networks. This includes programming, troubleshooting, servicing client networking requests, programming firewalls, being on call, and generally being the primary point of contact for all Data Center networking issues.
This position will be our 'network expert' with the highest level of practical, hands-on networking experience able to troubleshoot complex network issues using tools like packet captures and other network diagnostic tools.
Primary Responsible for :
Essential Responsibilities :
Network architect will have primary responsibly for
30 % F5 load balancers
Provide primary, expert leadership, architecture design, and management of f5 load balancers. Expert level knowledge of load balancing, GSLB, SNAT, routing, irules, URL rewriting, certificates. Maintain F5s in safe, consistent state. Primary responsibility for security of devices. Stay current on CVEs and apply patches. Upgrade hardware and OS when necessary. Lead load balancing discussions with clients. Provide leadership in hybrid on-prem / cloud (AWS) load balancing discussion.
30 % L2 network support
Manage L2 network infrastructure at multiple data centers. Assign networking tasks to operations team. Upgrade existing mix of switches to juniper QFX. Design, manage, and own the network architecture. Primary point of contact for Data Center networking issues, tickets, architecture, and coordination with UCD NOC for Wan connectivity.
20 % programming support
Provide adhoc programming and configuration management support when needed. Expertise using ansible for configuration management. Familiarity with PHP, python, apache, mysql for occasional programming needs. These are for home grown applications supporting configuration management, client charge back, and user-facing web portals.
10% Fortinet firewalls, analyzer, manager support
Provide support and expertise for Fortinet firewall infrastrutcture. Assist in design and build out of firewalls. Lead networking architecture discussions of firewalls. Occasionally manage rules and policies via manager. Build reports via analyzer. Support point-to-point VPNs hosted on firewalls.
10 % ivanti VPN support
Provide support for networking expertise for Ivanti / Pulse VPN platform. Lead networking discussions related to VPNs. Upgrade platform when needed. Engage with clients to understand needs then configure VPN accordingly. Integrate VPNs with AD authentication. Maintain licensing to ensure uninterrupted service.
