What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Pastor position at Shiloh Baptist Learning center?
Purpose of the Position:
The Student & Young Adult Pastor is responsible for leading and growing a dynamic ministry that engages students (grades 6-12) and college (18-25 years old). The role includes spiritual guidance, discipleship, and community-building through intentional programming, mentorship, and leadership development.
Primary Responsibilities:
Student Ministry (Grades 6-12):
- Plan and lead weekly student gatherings, Bible studies, and small group activities.
- Develop age-appropriate teaching and discipleship plans that align with the church’s mission and values.
- Recruit, train, and mentor volunteer adult and student leaders to support student ministry initiatives.
- Organize and lead retreats, camps, mission trips, and special events that foster spiritual growth and community.
- Engage with parents and families to support discipleship at home.
College Ministry (Ages 18-25)
- Develop and oversee a vibrant ministry that connects young adults to Christ, community, and service.
- Oversee small groups, Bible studies, and special events tailored to young adults that foster fellowship, outreach, and discipleship.
- Provide pastoral care and mentorship to individuals navigating life transitions, faith questions, and challenges.
- Encourage young adults to participate in and serve within the larger church body.
Outreach & Community Building:
- Develop strategies to reach unchurched students and young adults in the community.
- Foster an environment that is welcoming, fun, and Christ-centered.
- Collaborate with other church ministries to integrate students and young adults into the life of the church.
Leadership Development:
- Identify and disciple emerging leaders among students and young adults.
- Provide opportunities for leadership development, training, and service.
- Administration & Communication:
- Prepare, submit, and manage the ministry budget.
- Communicate effectively with students, young adults, parents, and church leadership.
- Maintain a strong social media presence and digital communication to engage the target demographic.
Qualifications:
- A strong personal commitment to Jesus Christ and a life that reflects spiritual maturity.
- Bachelor’s degree in ministry, theology, education, or a related field (preferred but not required).
- Experience working with students, young adults, or in pastoral ministry.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to recruit, develop, and lead volunteer teams.
- Energetic, approachable, and passionate about building relationships and sharing the Gospel.
- Knowledge of current cultural trends and issues facing students and young adults.
- Ability to work independently, while collaborating with church leadership.
