What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chemist position at Shin-Etsu Silicones of America?
The Chemist is responsible for Silicone Fluid and Silane products showcasing Shin-Etsu's materials. This position will provide technical support assisting sales staff and customers, attend customer visits to give presentations, and assist in training of distributers.
Responsibilities:
- Recognize and follow all safety, health, and environmental requirements.
- Design and run experiments of chemical synthesis, formulation, analytical testing, etc.
- Maintain lab operation. This includes maintaining a clean and well-organized work area, setting up instruments, maintaining lab equipment, ordering chemical and lab supplies, training new lab technicians, etc.
- Write Standard Operation Procedure for synthesis, formulation, and analytical testing.
- Follow Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) to run experiments, document experimental data, and generate technical reports.
- Provide periodic work update to manager.
- Conduct technical presentations at conferences and internal meetings.
- Provide technical support to customers, e.g., answering technical questions and providing lab samples.
- Participate in trainings as needed.
- Perform other duties as requested by the company and manager.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor or advanced degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related scientific field; or equivalent combination of education and on-the-job experience.
- Experience in chemical industries, especially silicone industry, is preferred.
Technical:
- Knowledge of general chemistry, organic synthesis, formulation, surface chemistry, chemical/physical testing, etc. is required. Good knowledge of silicone chemistry is a plus. Basic PC skills.
Communications:
- Strong verbal and written skills are required.
- Must have good interpersonal skills to be able to operate effectively within a team environment.
- Must behave in a professional manner and positive attitude.
