What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control Analyst position at Shin-Etsu Silicones of America?
Responsibilities:
- Analyze samples from production, logistics, or supervision.
- Provide accurate and reliable analytical data using a variety of techniques including wet chemistry method, chromatography, spectrophotometry, etc.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate/verify analytical equipment and computer support equipment as required per testing procedures.
- Monitor critical parameters, documents, and reports findings. Take appropriate action to communicate atypical quality results.
- Prepare and review Statistical Process Control Sheets and instrument Metrology Sheets.
- Maintain quality testing records and other proper documentation.
- Assist in training operations personnel on lab techniques.
- Change 5’ tall gas cylinders when necessary.
- Prepare and deliver environmental samples to outside laboratories.
- Purchase, research, and maintain inventory of lab chemicals, supplies, and gases.
- Promote a safe working environment. This includes enforcing safe work practices, participating in plant safety programs and meetings, participating in safety audits, etc.
- Certify incoming raw materials for use in production.
- Adhere to and remain up-to-date on environmental system requirements. Report environmental incidents and take appropriate corrective action.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associates degree in Science with a minimum 8 hrs. college level chemistry strongly preferred or an Associates in Applied Science in Chemical Technology with the Lab Technician option.
- Prior experience in a lab setting, experience with GC Maintenance, and experience operating under ISO-9001 standard strongly preferred.
- Must possess strong mathematical skills.
- Must have the ability to run all laboratory equipment.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate (verbal and written) effectively.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Must be proactive in your approach to all issues in order to identify or eliminate potential problem
- Must possess moderate problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Must have a strong attention to detail.
- Must be punctual and reliable.
- Must be able to wear all required PPE.
Work Environment:
- This position operates in a Quality Control Laboratory and a professional office environment.
- The lab role routinely uses the following equipment: GC, HPLC, GPC, Coulometric and Auto Titrators, UV-VIS, TOC, Refractive Index, and Color Analyzers, PH meters.
- The office routinely uses standard office equipment.
Physical Demands:
- Lifts up to 50lbs
- In contact with silicone rubber, powders, fluids
- Stands 4 hours/day or more
- Performs repetitive hand and arm motions
- Performs twisting, bending, stooping motions
