ShineStar Day Program Overview
What We Do: ShineStar Day Program is a 100% community-based behavioral day program
dedicated to providing specialized care and support for adults with developmental
disabilities. We offer a variety of structured activities, including park-based exercise, art
therapy, volunteering opportunities, financial literacy workshops, and adaptive nutrition
training, to enhance participants' life skills, mental well-being, and independence. Our
services are designed to foster personal growth, community engagement, and
independence.
Goal: To empower participants by equipping them with essential life skills, promoting
independence, enhancing their mental health, and enabling successful community
integration.
Mission: Our mission is to provide a supportive, inclusive environment where individuals
with developmental disabilities can thrive by engaging in meaningful activities, learning
valuable skills, and achieving their fullest potential.
Working Hours: The program operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM,
excluding weekends and major holidays.
Description of Shinestar Day Program
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
- Completion of health screenings, including a negative tuberculosis test, and
ongoing training as required.
- Requires first aid certification, with CPR certification recommended.
- Must pass a criminal record clearance and sign mandated reporting forms (e.g.,
SOC 341A).
- Should be in good physical and mental health to perform assigned tasks.
- Fluent in English to effectively communicate with clients, families, and
professionals.
Job Summary
The Adult Day Program Support Staff is responsible for providing care, supervision, and engaging activities for adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities. This role promotes independence, community involvement, and quality of life through individualized support and meaningful programming.
Duties
- Provide direct support and supervision to program participants in both group
- Assist individuals with daily living skills such as feeding, mobility, hygiene, and toileting as needed.
- Facilitate and lead recreational, educational, and social activities (e.g., arts and crafts, games, community outings).
- Implement individualized service plans (ISPs) and behavioral support strategies.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and supportive environment for all participants.
- Document daily progress, incidents, and attendance records accurately and timely.
- Support community integration by escorting participants on field trips and outings.
- Collaborate with program staff, families, caregivers, and health professionals to meet participant needs.
- Follow all agency policies, licensing regulations, and health/safety procedures.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (some employers may prefer an associate’s degree or higher in a related field).
- Previous experience working with adults with disabilities or in a caregiving role preferred.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, compassion, and a commitment to person-centered care.
