What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pharmacy Technician position at Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians?
POSITION SUMMARY
Under direct supervision of a pharmacist, support the workflow of the pharmacy department by greeting patients, typing prescriptions, answering phones, stocking supplies and pharmaceuticals, and operating cash control systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist patients by informing them of the status of their prescription in the filling process and answering basic benefit questions.
- Sort filled prescriptions, remove "not picked up" medications from Will-Call and process them appropriately.
- Sort and file prescription hard copies.
- Process payments and operate the cash register.
- Balance cash register drawers and prepare bank deposits.
- Enter prescription claims for third party billing where appropriate.
- Keep pharmacy work areas clean and well stocked, and assist in restocking of drugs and medicines on pharmacy shelves.
- Assist in the shipping, handling, invoicing, and delivery of medications and supplies to patients.
- Assist with clerical duties related to the prescription refill processes where appropriate. This includes customer service and telecommunication, shipping and handling, etc.
- Perform other related duties as directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Current CPhT license in good standing.
- Completion of GED or High School diploma required.
- Current certification, or ability to obtain certification in CPR.
- Compliance with all state board of pharmacy rules and licensing requirements.
- Knowledge of Pharmacy Processes and Law.
- Knowledge of medical and drug terminology.
- Knowledge and experience with billing 3rd party claims, Prior Authorizations,
- TAR’s.
- Math skills to carry out calculations required for common dosage determination.
- Accurately perform procedures and techniques relating to manufacturing, packaging and labeling of drug products.
- Working knowledge of clerical procedures in the pharmacy environment.
- Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers.
- Demonstrated ability to independently follow protocol and solve problems.
- In order to work effectively with patients, must have effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work well and concentrate in a busy setting to ensure complete and accurate pharmacy results and optimal reimbursement for pharmacy work performed.
- Maintain safe working conditions by complying with established safety policies and Procedures.
- Provide sensitive and competent service to customers who may be anxious or in substantial distress.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others including physicians, nurses, administrators, managers, vendors, and other health care industry personnel.
- Post job offer: CPR/BLS certification, TB test, and annual flu shot (during flu season) are required as a condition of employment, unless a medical/religious accommodation request is provided. Hepatitis B Vaccine will be offered at no cost to employees, but it is not required.
NATIVE PREFERENCE
Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Native preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
