What are the responsibilities and job description for the Risk Management Officer position at Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians?
POSITION SUMMARY
The Risk Management Officer is responsible for assessing and identifying potential financial, safety, and security risks that can negatively impact the Tribe and its operations, and for developing policies and procedures to effectively manage or mitigate those risks. This position will work closely with other areas of Tribal operations to implement risk reduction measures and monitor their efficacy as well as manage the Tribe’s various insurance policies and claim processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Conduct regular assessments for identifying, measuring, and communicating various forms of risk that could negatively impact Tribal operations or its workforce.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, standards, programs, and best practices related to risk management and the prevention of loss events.
- Identify potential risk exposure(s) affecting Tribal operations, recommend solutions, and implement approved actions to promote loss prevention.
- Provide consultation and training to employees and leadership on various risk management matters and procedures.
- Work with employees and leadership to monitor and evaluate the efficacy of established risk management policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all Tribal adopted risk management policies, procedures, standards, and regulations are enforced and followed.
- Coordinate the Tribe’s general liability, worker’s compensation, and property insurance policies and claims, from intake and investigation through litigation, settlement, and/or trial, and consult and/or participate in negotiations, conferences, and mediations with adjusting companies, outside legal counsel, staff, claimants, and other involved parties.
- Coordinate the procurement of necessary insurance policies, including the tracking and gathering of insurance policy renewal data.
- Assist with the ongoing development and implementation of the Tribe’s risk management program ensuring alignment with tribal values and legal standards, to foster a safe and healthy work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Business Administration, Risk Management, or similarly related field; equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of one-year, full-time experience in a similar role, preferably in a like-sized environment.
- Possession of a Certified Risk Manager Certification (CRM), or ability to obtain within first year of employment.
- Strong knowledge and ability to use Microsoft® Suite programs, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with Tribal members, Tribal employees, cooperators, and stakeholders.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Possession of a valid California driver's license and reliable transportation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working within a federally recognized Native American tribal organization.
- Possession of a Certified Risk Manager Professional Certification (CRMP).
- Possession of First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
NATIVE PREFERENCE
Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Native preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
Salary : $83,900 - $105,900
