What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transporter position at Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians?
POSITION SUMMARY
The Transporter is responsible for providing transportation to Shingle Springs Tribal TANF participants, and for providing support to the Site Manager. S/he develops a schedule for specific regularly scheduled routes, responds to the transportation needs of the participants and assists passengers in boarding and exiting the vehicle. Other responsibilities may include furniture assembly, delivery of products, computer and technical support and other responsibilities as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Operate van/passenger cars safely and efficiently.
- Develop schedule for specific regularly scheduled routes.
- Respond to requests from management for unscheduled pick-ups or drop-offs.
- Assist passengers in boarding and exiting vehicle.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and moving luggage, packages, and other items as needed.
- Monitor traffic and weather conditions and notify dispatch of potential problems.
- Reports accidents or other safety situations to Transportation Manager, and in cases of accidents, to local law Enforcement as well.
- Accurately complete a Vehicle Inspection Report for all vehicles on a daily basis.
- Maintain regular schedule for auto maintenance and if problems exist, oversee on-going repairs and maintenance.
- Accurately complete driver trip sheet for each vehicle with information including vehicle license, number of passengers, pick-up and drop-off times, mileage, destinations, etc.
- Provide participants, guests, and passengers with appropriate information regarding transportation services within the service areas.
- Treat all participants, guests, staff, and other people in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner.
- Required to meet all dress codes, grooming standards and personnel policies as set forth in the SSTTP Policies and Procedures, and to wear uniform jacket/vest/shirt while transporting participants.
- Pick up and deliver supplies, mail, and payroll checks between all TANF sites and the Rancheria, as needed.
- Assist in facilitating activities for participants during off-site events.
- May be required to assist transporting in other counties as needed.
- May be required to adjust schedule to support TANF events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- Must have two (2) years of experience transporting passengers.
- Must present a current DMV print out.
- Must be at least twenty-five (25) years of age, with a good driving record.
- Must possess a California Driver’s License and applicable minimum auto insurance as required by law.
- Must have a clean motor vehicle record, with fewer than three (3) points in the past five (5) years.
- One year of experience working in a Native American community preferred.
- The applicant should be able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages and have the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations and proportions to a practical situation.
- Must possess the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to communicate by telephone, two-way radio and in person in clear, fluent English in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner with participants, guests, and co-workers.
- Must be familiar with California Transportation Regulations.
- Must have basic computer skills, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Must possess the ability to work effectively, either independently or cooperatively with others.
- Must be available to work nights and weekends as required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must have a valid, unrestricted California Driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance, and qualify for the Tribe’s vehicle insurance.
NATIVE PREFERENCE
Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Native preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
