Key Responsibilities
- Champion the vision, mission, and goals of Shining Stars Montessori Academy to students, parents, and the broader community.
- Design and implement an authentic Montessori Primary curriculum and assessments in line with Montessori standards and D.C. Common Core.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning and adapt instructional methods to cater to individual needs, including those of special needs students and English Language Learners.
- Facilitate both individual and small group instructions according to students’ requirements.
- Maintain the integrity of the Montessori Method through collaboration with students, families, and colleagues.
- Curate a vibrant classroom environment tailored to student interests and developmental needs.
- Observe and document student progress and engagement daily, while managing attendance records.
- Engage in ongoing professional development activities, including conferences and workshops, to further enhance your teaching skills.
- Participate in school events and initiatives, including Open House and Peace Assemblies.
- Administer standardized assessments in compliance with educational requirements.
- Instruct students on the principles of Grace and Courtesy.
- Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and families.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings and oversee shared areas for safety.
- Strong understanding of Montessori principles and child development.
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
- Ability to foster self-discipline and confidence in students.
- Passion for developing independent and inquisitive learners.
- Effective listening and communication abilities, both written and verbal.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
- AMS, AMI, or MACTE certification in Primary Education is essential.
- Teaching license or eligibility for licensure through the Office of the State Superintendent of Education in Washington, D.C.
- Previous experience in a Montessori classroom setting is preferred.
- Experience in diverse school environments is a plus.
- Praxis I & II certification preferred; fluency in Spanish or French is advantageous.
