Key Responsibilities
- Champion the vision, mission, and goals of Shining Stars Montessori Academy to students, parents, and the broader community.
- Design and implement a genuine Montessori Upper Elementary curriculum and assessments that align with Montessori principles and the District of Columbia Common Core State Standards.
- Collaborate with a Co-Guide to deliver Montessori lessons and orchestrate student expeditions.
- Conduct continual assessments of student learning, adapting instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs, including those with special requirements or English Language Learners.
- Offer individual and small group instruction as necessary.
- Ensure the integrity and application of the Montessori Method in collaboration with students, parents, educators, and administrators.
- Prepare the classroom environment, materials, and lessons tailored to student interests and needs.
- Document observations of student progress and ensure accurate attendance records.
- Engage in professional development and participate in school-wide events and activities as needed.
- Administer standardized assessments as mandated by the District of Columbia and Public Charter School Board.
- Instruct students in the principles of Grace and Courtesy.
- Strong commitment to fostering independent, curious, and confident learners.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to cater to a diverse range of learning styles.
- Strong understanding of child development and classroom management.
- A sense of humor and genuine love for working with children.
- A Bachelor's degree in Education, Elementary Education, or a related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
- AMS or AMI certification/Diploma in Elementary Education from a MACTE-recognized Teacher Education Program is required.
- Prior experience in a Montessori classroom is preferred.
- Experience engaging with a diverse community of students and adults is essential.
- Praxis II certification and passing scores are advantageous.
