Key Responsibilities
- Advocate for and promote the mission and vision of Shining Stars Montessori Academy Public Charter School to students, parents, and the broader community.
- Deliver the Primary Montessori Curriculum with fidelity, incorporating culturally relevant practices while meeting state learning standards.
- Develop and implement a genuine Montessori Lower Elementary curriculum and assessments that align with the District of Columbia’s Common Core State Standards.
- Conduct daily observations and assessments of student learning, adjusting instructional methods to cater to each student's unique needs, including special education and English Language Learners.
- Prepare and maintain a well-equipped classroom environment that meets the diverse needs of children.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records for all student activities, including achievement and attendance, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Engage in continuous professional development, participate in staff meetings, and attend conferences and training programs.
- Instruct students in the principles of Grace & Courtesy and Peace, fostering a positive classroom culture.
- Conduct regular conferences with parents to communicate student progress and promote open dialogue.
- Collaborate with the Classroom/Teaching Assistant to share insights and observations.
- Participate in the school’s evaluation cycle and contribute to a collegial support system that upholds professional standards.
- Exhibit integrity, curiosity, responsibility, creativity, and respect for all individuals, while valuing diversity in all its forms.
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
- Montessori certification (ages 6-9) from a MACTE approved program (e.g., AMS, AMI, etc.) is required; candidates may be in the Practicum stage, but full certification is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
- Valid licensure or certification in Elementary Education is highly preferred, alongside a passing score on Praxis I and II.
- Advanced degrees and multiple credentials (e.g., Special Education, ESOL) are advantageous.
- CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
- Teaching experience in diverse instructional settings, especially with culturally inclusive practices, is preferred.
- Commitment to equity and a passion for cultivating independent, confident, and intellectually inquisitive children are essential.
- Strong listening skills, a love for children, and a sense of humor are important attributes for this role.
