QUALIFICATIONS
- PA Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Maintains current CPR and First Aid certifications.
JOB GOAL
To promote and protect the health and welfare of the students and staff within the Shippensburg Area School District as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the school health program.
- Develops and coordinates with the Certified School Nurse the preparation of the school nursing budget.
- Works in cooperation with other medical support personnel such as certified school nurse, school physician and the dental hygienist.
- Plans with school administrative and maintenance personnel for the environmental and safety needs of students, especially adjustments necessary to meet the needs of handicapped students.
- Delivers needed health services using systematic processes to assess needs, plan interventions and evaluate outcomes so the high-level wellness can be achieved.
- Shall be responsible for provision of mandated school health services as required by the Pennsylvania Public School Code and shall maintain comprehensive health records on each student.
- Shall be responsible for medication administration as prescribed by a physician, following the district medication policy and PA Nursing Standards of Practice.
- Shall assist in the control of infectious, contagious and communicable diseases, update immunization records on all students.
- Shall render first aid according to district policies and protocols and arrange for further treatment in cases requiring additional attention.
- Assists with screenings and examinations as directed by the Certified School Nurse, school dentist and school physician.
- Maintains confidentiality of health room information.
- Performs all duties as assigned by Certified School Nurse.
- Advocates the health rights of children and families both with the school setting and between school and community at large.
- Shall be responsible for communicating the district health program to parents and seek permission for student participation when required.
- Shall confer with parents concerning necessary follow-up and referral by interpreting the health needs of individual children to parents and assisting them in utilizing community resources.
- Participates in health education and health counseling activities for students, school personnel and community.
- Shall provide current information to school personnel on such subjects as the growth and development patterns of children, first aid practice, accident prevention, (PANA) Pennsylvania Advisory for Nutrition and Activity, nutrition, communicable disease regulations, etc.
- Shall visit classrooms and consult with teachers in planning mutually agreeable classroom instruction utilizing the school nurse.
- Regular and timely attendance.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities, from time to time, which may be assigned by the building principal.
