What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Groundskeeper position at Shippensburg University?
Responsible for maintenance of all roads, grounds, walks, parking lots and athletic fields in a safe, clean, orderly and ready-for-use condition. These duties include work to accomplish seeding, planting, fertilizing, mowing, pesticide spraying, and leaf removal. Maintenance of trees, shrubbery and plants. Inspect and clean storm drains. Operate sweepers and snowplows. Accomplish leaf, trash, ice and snow removal. Employee operates portable snow blowers, leaf blowers, outdoor vacuum cleaners, fertilizer spreaders, rotary and reel-type riding mowers, verticut machine, aerator, rototiller and other items of grounds maintenance equipment. Accomplishes a scheduled equipment and tool preventive maintenance program in addition to those maintenance requirements resulting from seasonal operations such as storage, steam cleaning or make-ready-for-use, etc.
Operates equipment to work and line athletic and instructional fields; sets, adjusts and operates portable sprinklers; leads part-time student personnel as assigned and accomplishes assignments on an individual, group and crew basis to include planning and layout of work in support of the users ‘schedule.
During the period of the year following the grounds and leaf raking work, and when there is no snow or ice removal work, employee can be assigned general labor assignments to include non-technical painting, cleaning and other work appropriate to the weather. Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
As a Facilities Division Employee I am deemed “essential” and must remain or report to work when classes are delayed or cancelled due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons. The provisions of Management Directive 530.17 are applicable in these situations and are available to me from my supervisor. Also, as a Facilities Division Employee, I may be utilized to work a rotational schedule to maintain coverage on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience in grounds keeping work and completion of the eighth grade; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
