What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Store Manager position at Shipton's Big R?
Shipton's Big R is a locally owned farm/ranch retail store that has been in business for 76 years serving generations of farm and ranching family's.
The person in this position will report directly to the Store Manager and be primarily responsible to assist the Store Manager in the overall operation of the store. Department heads report to this position.
Job Duties
1. Responsible for supporting the efforts of store management through the expectations of driving sales, upholding store standards, customer service, financial responsibility, people development and event execution.
2. Adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct. Must maintain impartiality and objectivity when dealing with others. Communicate openly and honestly with subordinates, peers, and management.
3. Store Standards: Maintains store standards by walking with department manager(s) to evaluate merchandising, cleanliness, signage, and seasonal conversions for each department that reports to this position. Creates task lists that include goals for each department/ department manager. Follows up on work results.
4. Merchandising: Will work with the buying staff in a professional and courteous manner to work toward the shared goal of a strategically merchandised department that will result in increased profitability for which managers and buyers are equally responsible.
5. Driving Sales: Ensuring departments are adequately stocked through transfers, daily RDI review, identifying out of stocks daily by communicating with the buying staff.
6. Customer Service: Promotes customer service through developing people through strategic hiring practices, evaluating performance, coaching and training and accurate scheduling.
7. Performs a variety of duties personally and/or coaches Department Heads/Employees who are responsible for carrying out the specific duties. Duties could include preparing merchandise displays, receiving merchandise, etc.
8. Maintains store staff by interviewing, hiring, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning monitoring, and appraising job results.
9. Upholds and maintains Human Resource policies and procedures by complying with and consistently applying all company policies and procedures by reading and understanding the Employee Handbook including all updates and all management policies and procedures.
10. Responsible for opening and closing the store when schedules dictate and according to established procedures.
11. Fiscal responsibility to include integrity of cash register balances, safe balances, and deposits.
12. Responsible for supporting the individual Department Managers by:
- Providing fill-in coverage when staffing levels are not adequate.
- Assist Department Managers and associates with customer complaints/issues.
13. Continually strive to keep current on product knowledge.
14. Maintain professional conduct with co-workers and peers and represent Shipton’s Big R in a positive and professional manner both on and off the job.
Minimum Requirements
1. Preferred 3-5 years retail experience.
2. Preferred 2 years supervisory experience.
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
4. Strong inter-personal relationship skills.
5. Strong computer skills with the ability to learn company specific software.
6. Must be able to work with and around the products we carry including feed, seed, or poultry (chickens, ducks, geese and the like) or small animals.
7. Must be able to work with and around cleaning supplies.
8. Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, lift up to 75 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds intermittently and stand for an extended period of time.
9. Must have ability to climb a ladder.
10. Must have reliable transportation.
11. Must be able to work any store hours/days as dictated by their manager.
