As a Store Manager with Shipton’s Big R, you’ll oversee all aspects of our retail store in Hardin, MT. From hiring, training, and retaining knowledgeable associates, to executing merchandising strategies, you’ll set the standard for a successful store operation. It’s hard work, but it pays off in the pride you will take knowing you’re making a difference for your employees, customers, and the community.
With our store’s variety of merchandise, you’ll need all employees engaged to provide the best possible customer experience. You’ll mentor, coach and lead an Assistant Manager, Key Employees, and Sales Associates to success in the following areas:
- Customer Service: We believe customer service starts with people development and we provide that with consistent product training. Armed with extensive knowledge of our products, our sales associates ensure our customers have the right solutions and products, at the right time to satisfy their needs or wants.
- Merchandising & Inventory: Product presentation plays an important role in helping our customers find what they need, when they need it. Lead, coach and train sales associates to merchandise strategically, execute promotional merchandising, and sale price changes. Responsible for all policies and guidelines related to loss prevention and asset protection.
- Execution of operational expectations: driving sales, store standards, customer service, financial responsibility, people development and event execution.
- Store Standards: Conducts daily store walks to evaluate and correct any issues with; merchandising, safety of employees and customers, cleanliness of store, inside and all outside properties, restrooms, break room & offices, signage, seasonal conversions, and maintenance issues. Creates task lists that include deadlines. Follows up on work results.
- Retail Initiatives: You and your team will drive sales by ensuring the store is in stock through an efficient receiving and stocking program, transfers, identifying and researching out of stocks. Responsible for maintaining accurate on hands in the system.
- Team Development: Adopting company standards for an employees lifecycle including hiring, training, developing, evaluating, disciplining, separation of employment and maintaining an environment where employees feel appreciated and safe.
- Leadership: It start’s by leading by example. Build relationships through consistency and trust. Maintain professional conduct and appearance with employees, customers, and peers, have great product knowledge and represent Shipton’s Big R in a positive and professional manner both on and off the job.
- Profitability: Accountable for sales, expenses, profitability, and shrinkage.
- Compliance: Compliance keeps our company accountable to a set of standards including standards of our Employee Handbook, and all State and Federal Regulatory Agencies.
- Other Duties: All other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
Minimum Requirements
- Preferred 5-10 years retail management experience.
- Proven leadership skills to hire, develop and motivate a strong staff.
- Proven customer service standards.
- Experience in merchandising.
- Experience in execution of Human Resource Policy and Procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills.
- Proficient computer skills with experience in Word, Excel and Outlook and the ability to learn company specific software.
- Must be able to work with and around the products we carry including feed, seed, or poultry (chickens, ducks, geese and the like) or small animals.
- Must be able to work with and around cleaning supplies.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, lift up to 75 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds intermittently and stand for an extended period of time.
- Must have ability to climb a ladder.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and a Drug and Alcohol Test.
