Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated Shop Foreman to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a key part in overseeing shop personnel to ensure daily operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. You will work closely with the Plant Manager to drive continuous improvement, enhance production processes, and maintain the highest levels of quality and customer satisfaction.
As a Shop Foreman, your leadership will be essential in managing shop floor activities, coordinating tasks, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring on-time delivery. You will be hands-on, spending a significant amount of time on the floor, assisting employees, and overseeing production workflows. This role offers growth potential into a Plant Manager position as you gain experience and demonstrate leadership abilities.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate daily shop activities to maximize productivity, efficiency, and safety.
- Work closely with the Plant Manager on process improvements, quality control, and customer satisfaction initiatives.
- Maintain daily task assignments on the whiteboard for all employees, ensuring clear communication of job duties, PMs, and maintenance tasks.
- Troubleshoot and assist machinists with technical manufacturing needs, including programming, tool selection, setup, operation, and efficient use of equipment.
- Spend at least 2/3 of your day on the shop floor to schedule, monitor, assist, and train employees.
- Maintain accurate records of programming, routing, tooling, setup, work instructions, and time tracking.
- Oversee the safe and efficient use of shop equipment, tooling, fixtures, and materials.
- Collaborate with the management team on routing, machine setup, and work instruction development.
- Ensure on-time delivery by reporting job progress in weekly production meetings and utilizing shop resources effectively.
- Assist with providing machine setup, run times, routing, tooling costs, and material estimates for customer quotes.
- Requisition necessary tooling and ensure availability for production.
- Notify the Plant Manager of any quality issues to initiate the NCR process.
- Direct labor and equipment resources in the shop area and manage outsourced service requirements as per router and drawing specifications.
- Lead 5S and continuous improvement initiatives on the shop floor.
- Enforce company policies and procedures as outlined in the employee manual and memos.
- Participate in employee performance reviews and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Perform additional duties as requested by the President.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a manufacturing or machining environment, with leadership experience.
- Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and tooling.
- Ability to troubleshoot and provide technical support to production personnel.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and ability to enforce shop safety procedures.
- Willingness to be hands-on in the production process and assist as needed.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
