JOB SUMMARY:
The Battery Technician will be responsible for performing service calls, both in-shop and customer sites. Service calls will consist of watering batteries, evaluating batteries/chargers and battery monitoring systems to correct non-conformities and maximize uptime of customer material handling equipment. Support sales staff, as necessary, in the sale/service of new and used equipment. Will represent Viking Power and requires professionalism, great attitude, effective communication skills and outstanding customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Communicate with intra-company personnel about potential warranty issues.
- Be able to rebuild batteries by replacing cells, connectors, cables, etc.
- Able to burn lead to make connections and case connectors.
- Able to do acid adjustments to batteries.
- Able to run diagnostics on batteries.
- Responsible for all parts in inventory.
- Be able to do all repairs and P.M. (preventative maintenance) to changers and systems.
- Periodic maintenance and repairs.
- Notify supervisor of equipment not working properly.
- Package and dispose of used acids and batteries in accordance with DOT/EPA and OSHA regulations.
- Responsible to gather information necessary to properly communicate work; (ie. Truck model, Truck Serial #, Unit #, Battery Model, Battery Serial #, Charger Model, Charger Serial #, Connector type.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 years’ experience working batteries
- Clean driving record
- Must have working knowledge of electrical circuits & electronics.
