JOB SUMMARY:
The Stationary Battery Technician will be responsible for assisting in the installation of critical power systems for UPS, switchgear, and telecommunications projects. Is responsible for completing projects on time and in accordance with IEEE and manufacturer specifications. This position will represent Viking Power and requires professionalism, great attitude, effective communication skills and outstanding customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Be able to physically remove and replace batteries, spill containment, racks and prepare spent batteries for shipment to smelter in accordance with DOT/EPA requirements.
- Able to correctly size batteries while considering; space, temperature, maintenance, and performance.
- Able to evaluate and recommend EHS equipment necessary to comply with EPA, DOT & OSHA in battery rooms.
- Able to run Alber Cell order and Alber BCT capacity tester on batteries for evaluation.
- Achieve FPY (First Pass Yield) by properly evaluation of projects and having all necessary tools, material, and equipment necessary to complete job on first visit.
- Keep inventory of all inventories for a project.
- Be able to do all charger repairs and P.M. (preventative maintenance) to chargers and battery systems.
- Clean and neutralize batteries, as necessary.
- Proper watering of batteries.
- Periodic maintenance and repairs.
- Notify supervisor of equipment not working properly.
- Package and dispose of used acids and batteries in accordance with DOT/EPA and OSHA regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 years experience working on batteries
- Proven safety record, experienced in LOTO procedure and JHAs.
- Excellent written communication and people skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word & Adobe Acrobat
- Clean driving record
- Must have working knowledge of electrical circuits & electronics.
- Must be able to decipher blueprints and build out according to plans or red line as needed.
- Must be able to perform JHAs at customer sites.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sitting, standing, and walking (up to continuously); frequent use of computer and telephone requiring repetitive finger, hand, and arm movement; occasionally carry office supplies and other miscellaneous items up to 50 pounds. Continuous use of seeing, hearing, verbal communication.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to temperatures commensurate with outdoor seasonal temperatures.
