We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Purchasing Manager to lead our team of two buyers and a procurement specialist in a dynamic manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in vendor management, order management, and skilled negotiation, with experience sourcing both domestic and global suppliers. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the timely procurement of materials and components needed for production while driving cost-efficiency and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers. The Purchasing Manager will leverage their knowledge of supply chain management and manufacturing processes to streamline procurement activities and support operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of two buyers and a procurement specialist, providing guidance, support, and professional development.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies to ensure the timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials and components for production.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with domestic and global suppliers, negotiating favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.
- Oversee the order management process, ensuring timely and accurate purchase order creation, approval, and fulfillment.
- Monitor inventory levels, assess material requirements, and collaborate with the production team to prevent delays and ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Evaluate supplier performance, resolve any supply chain issues, and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
- Stay informed of market trends, supplier capabilities, and industry regulations to ensure procurement strategies remain competitive and compliant.
- Utilize procurement software and ERP systems (we use Epicor) to track orders, manage vendor data, and streamline procurement processes.
- Prepare and present regular reports on purchasing activities, cost savings, inventory status, and supplier performance to senior management.
- Continuously identify opportunities for process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce procurement-related costs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement or purchasing within a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Proven experience in sourcing suppliers both domestically and globally.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and supply chain management principles.
- Excellent negotiating skills with a strong ability to manage vendor relationships and secure favorable terms.
- In-depth knowledge of procurement software and ERP systems (Epicor experience preferred).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with global sourcing, customs regulations, and logistics.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and other data analysis tools.
